Scouts and Scouters — do you need a 20-mile hike for your Hiking Merit Badge or a prep hike for a 50-Miler Award?  And want to do it SAFELY while having FUN and earning a SPECIAL PATCH?

Join the Order of the Arrow Ut-in Sélica Lodge for a day of hiking on the Fages II Trail.  — Fages is pronounced “Faw-Hace”.

Ut-in Sélica Lodge Arrowmen host this hike and provide logistical support along the 20-mile Fages II route.

The FAGES 20 is NOT a Novice Hike – Before attempting this hike: A regular fitness regimen is recommended for participants. They are urged to start slowly, gradually increasing the duration and intensity of their exercise. Neither youth nor adults should participate in a trek or activity for which they are not physically prepared.

A current BSA Health & Medical Form ABC is required for all hikers

Location of On-site payment and Hike Start-End: Wildcat Canyon – Alvarado Staging Area.
Address of entrance to the parking and staging area: 5845 Park Avenue, Richmond CA.

Cost: $15.00 per hiker (includes Lunch and the FAGES segment patch.) Pay your hike fee ONLINE or on hike morning at the on-site registration desk. Note: It is preferred that all hikers pre-register ONLINE.

Your unit’s on-site check in will be expedited if you pre-register!!

7:00 AM: On-site payment is at the Wildcat Canyon Alvarado Staging Area (pay fees, turn-in the A B C medical forms.) The location for onsite registration and the hike start/end are alike Fages 2016-2018 hikes (address below). Hike completion requirement is 7:00 PM – no change from prior hikes – more about this later.

Lunch: Provided at the ~10 miles mark. Vegetarian lunches by pre-order ONLY (ONLINE).

What to Bring: Bring a pre-filled water container (water refills available on the trail). Bring energy/trail food (GORP, etc.) Bring personal First Aid kit(s). Confirm the weather for proper dress. Please no new boots. Obey the Scout Motto “Be Prepared”. As always “Leave No Trace”. Got sunscreen???

Adult Unit Requirement and Hike Pace: Each unit must have two (2) or more adults, who will hike with the unit. Each unit must hike and finish together. Please come with hikers who can finish the 20 miles. The unit must maintain a hiking pace of 30-minutes per mile. If the unit does not maintain a hiking pace of 30 minutes per mile, the unit will be asked to leave the hike. Thank you for your cooperation.

The FAGES Hike is NOT a Novice Hike — it’s a PROVING GROUND.
No dogs or horses are permitted on the hike. See you on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel within two weeks of June 1st, 2019, there will be no refund issued*. If you wish to cancel prior to the two week mark, the policy is as follows:

30 Days prior is 80% refund. Anything between 2 weeks and 30 days is 50% refund.

*Within 2 weeks of the event refund is at the discretion of the event coordinator or staff adviser. Usually only granted in cases of emergency.

June Induction Weekend

Induction check-in will be between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening, and checkout will be approximately 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Camp Wolfeboro is approximately a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from the Bay Area. Please plan accordingly. The cost of the Ordeal is $75.00, which covers food, Order of the Arrow sash and handbook, Lodge pocket flap, and your current year dues. A $20.00 late fee will be assessed for registrations received after May 31, 2019. A notice will be mailed to you about each Induction Weekend, including information on how to register. You MUST pre-register for the Induction. You will need to arrange your own transportation. You might contact your Scoutmaster or Troop OA representative to see if you can ride with anyone else who is going. PLEASE INFORM YOUR RIDE THAT YOU SHOULD BE PICKED UP AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 am SUNDAY MORNING.

The Lodge trading post will also be available with neckerchiefs, pins, Lodge t-shirts, jackets, and other great OA items for sale. Please bring extra money if you would like to purchase anything.

You must bring a copy of the standard BSA medical form (Parts A & B) to the Induction with you. When registering online, please print the medical form, fill it out and bring it with you to the Induction.

Close toe shoes appropriate for the wet weather

Extra set of dry clothes if rain is in the forecast

Sleeping bag

Sleeping pad

Tarp (large enough to fold over your sleeping bag)

Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries

Hydration system or water bottle


Lip balm or Chapstick

Insect repellant

Personal first aid kit

Toiletries – toothbrush & toothpaste, washcloth, etc.

Any personal medications

(Prescription medications must be in container with original pharmacy label including patient’s name, doctor’s name, name of medication, and dosage.  All medication except inhalers and epi pens must be turned over to the adult leader in charge.)

Tent (for Saturday evening)   No tents will be used on Friday evening.

All food will be provided.  Please do not bring any food, as it attracts unwanted animals.

Ut-In Sélica Lodge dues are renewed annually.  Dues can be renewed online or through the mail. Dues are $20 per year. You do not have to pay back dues, just pay the current year to get current. For $90 you can get an annual pass, the 2019 Gold Card.  The Gold Card includes the 2019 lodge dues, the event registration fees for the induction weekends, the Fall Lodge Fellowship and Annual Lodge Banquet. The Council is using a new payment system, if you are having problems please watch these two videos. The first explains entering your contact information. The second explains the booking process.

2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the Ut-In Selica Lodge. We are making a special patch available for this celebration. Cost of the patch will be $10 and can be added to your dues payment.

The Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s Honor Society, is made up of thousands of great Scouts and Scouters like yourself, who were elected to the Order by their fellow Scouts because they saw something in you, something special – those qualities of trust, leadership, friendship, brotherhood, and a desire to serve others – that set you apart.

You undertook the Induction to prove your dedication to the high ideals of service that is the hallmark of our Order. Perhaps you have achieved an even greater understanding of Wimachtendienk, Wingolauchsik, Witahemui  by sealing your membership through the Brotherhood, or even now keep the flame of cheerful service alive through leadership in service. You are an Arrowman and we ask that you continue your support for the Order of the Arrow and its worthy goals which are more important now than ever.

An active member in Ut-In Sélica Lodge is someone who is a currently registered Scout or Scouter in the Mt Diablo Silverado Council with current dues paid. With active membership, you are entitled to attend all functions of the lodge appropriate for your honor level. It also entitles you to wear your OA flap. Technically, if you don’t pay your dues, you are not a member, and the flap should be removed from your uniform.

Think back on your Ordeal. Remember the Obligation and Admonition. Remember … “The ones, who chose you, need you.”

The Founders Award was introduced at the 1981 National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC), it recognizes Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates that he or she personifies the spirit of selfless service, as advocated by founders E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson. The Lodge may petition the national Order of the Arrow committee to present up to two awards annually. If more than one award is presented , one must be awarded to a youth (under the age of 21).

The 2018 Lodge Banquet ended with the call out of Ut-In Sélica Lodge’s Class of 2018 Vigil Candidates.  Most of the Candidates completed their Vigil experience during the Vigil weekend.  The circle widens again for new brothers and sisters of the Vigil.  Many are worthy, few are called.
